What is a MSA on an approach plate?

A

Minimum Safe Altitude

  • Provides 1000ft obstacle clearance
  • Within 25nm of the approach
  • Do not guarantee navigational reception
  • Altitudes can be different depending on the bearing sectors that you are in

This can be adjusted and increased closer to 30 nm in bigger airports
