16
Q

Crossover Cables

A

Cables that connect to the opposite pins (ie 1+2 -> 3+6 on other device)

17
Q

Auto MDI-X

A

Newer feature on new cables that can detect which pin their neighbour is using and avoid collision

18
Q

SFP Transceiver

A

Small form pluggable, used with fiber optic cables to plug into device

19
Q

When should you use fiber optic cables over ethernet?

A

when the distance is longer than 100m

20
Q

How do Fibre optic cables work?

A

They send light through glass cables rather than electricity

21
Q

What are the four different parts of a fibreoptic cable

A
  1. Core (light is transmitted through to another core)
  2. Cladding (reflect lights)
  3. Protective buffer (protects fiberglass)
  4. outer jacket
22
Q

Multimode fiber cable

23
Q

What’s the difference between Multimode fibre and single mode?

A

Multimode has a larger core that allows for multiple angles of light waves to enter the core while single mode only allows for one angle. Multimode is also cheaper but single mode is longer
