What 4 questions are asked to interpret a specimen

1. Is it normal?
2. If not, is it Inflammatory or Neoplastic
3. If neoplastic, is it Benign or Malignant
4. If malignant, is it Primary or Secondary

Compare Primary and Secondary Malignancy

Primary: Originating from that tissue
Secondary: Spread from a primary tumour elsewhere

Compare Benign and Malignant

1. Localised or spread?
2. Slow or rapid growth?
3. Good or poor differentiation?
4. Tissue compressed or Invaded, Destroyed?

Benign:
1. Localised
2. Slow growth
3. Well-differentiated
4. Compressed tissue



Malignant:
1. Spread
2. Rapid growth
3. Poorly-differentiated
4. Tissue invaded and destroyed
