Pre Iranian revolution (Shah’s feminism): huge expansion of women’s education
1970s Islamic revolution: contraction
1990s (Pres. Rafsanjani and Khatami): expansion
2000s (Pres. Ahmadinejad): contraction
2010 (Pres Rouhani): no change
Why was Shah’s feminism rejected?
Well understood in urban areas but not in rural traditional
