The rise of Islam
Mecca was the city where Islam was born in the Middle East right next to Aisa and Southeast of Europe near the red sea. The two empires that bordered it was the Persians who practised Zoroastrianism and the Christian Eastan Roman Empire. These two empires were at war. However, Mecca was dominated by the Quraysh tribe which was divided into in clans of different importance. The landscape of Mecca was a hot, dry desert. Before then people usually travelled to places where they could find water and land.
In 610AD this all changed when a merchant in a minor clan in Mecca called Muhammed he was aged around forty. He told his relatives that he heard voices, which believed were from Allah (God). He rapidly attracted followers was and was believed to be the messenger God. Throughout his lifetime, he created teachings to people and spread the religion of Islam across Mecca. Anyone related to Muhammad was a powerful leader. This created the Islamic empire.
Baghdad
This was the capital of the Islamic empire, and it was founded by the Arabs. This was also the centre of their trading network, The Silk Road. This made Baghdad described as the international centre because the silk road reached out all the way to Asia and Europe.
Trade and Travel in the Islamic empire
The Arabs created the silk road a network of roads that spread to Europe and Asia. This massively increased their trade because they had loads of expensive leather to trade for gems, slaves, exotic food/spices and silk. Since Baghdad was the centre of the silk road they have managed to become rich. However, the silk road wasn’t only used for trade, it was used for knowing their neighbours and decreasing of the fear of the unknown.
