Q

Geometric isomers requirements

A
  • There must be a carbon-carbon double bond present to prevent free rotation in space. Only occurs with alkenes.
  • Each carbon attached to the double bond must have two different groups bonded to it.
  • There must be a common group on each side of the double bond

Q

Structural isomers stuff

A

Positional Isomers: Position of a functional group or a side chain is different.
Branched Chain Isomers: Main carbon chain is of a different length due to the formation of side chains, such as methyl or ethyl groups.
