A Consortium dedicated to promotion of wines in the region, representing 75% of individual denominations and 80% of exports.

A

Umani Ronchi (70% exported) and Fazi Battaglia.
Moncaro is a key co-operative (exports 55%).

What is the division of sales of Marche wine? How has this changed, and what has this change led to?

A

Most by volume is sold within Italy.
About 1/3rd by value is exported, with key markets being the USA, Canada, China and Japan.

Inexpensive Verdicchio previously sold very well, both in Italy and exports, but has now been overtaken by Pinot Grigio from other regions, leading to a significant drop in the area planted.
Now the current challenge is for producers to build an international reputation for quality, not quantity.
