Why was Italy’s involvement in WW1 so contentious for their future?
Salandra who was PM of Italy when the war broke out worried that if Italy did not honour their participation in the Triple Alliance and Germany won, they would not be sympathetic to ally that did not come to their aid at a critical time but if Germany lost and Italy had helped them their ambitions for the Mediterranean would not happen
How did Salandra use legislation to become more powerful?
He introduced a regressive series of legislation that would offer an authoritarian solution to Italy’s problem and due to an Italian victory, his actions would not be questioned.
Why did Italy agree to sign an agreement with the Entente?
They offered Italy much of the irredente land
What agreement did Italy sign with Britain, France and Russia?
They signed the Treaty of London on the 26th of April 1915 which pledged their support
Why was the Treaty of London so controversial in Italy?
The arrangements were conducted in secret and not even the army officials were aware that the agreement was being made.

The Pope, the PSI and the Catholic party were all against the intervention
