Q

“I wear the chain I forged in life”

A

1 → Chains are made of links, infatuation of money is inextricably linked with isolation

2 → religious connotations to purgatory - chain might be heavy to showcase he is stuck in purgatory - so many sins to cleanse - scares the religious readers

3 → chain might not be literal, yet is instead the weight of his sins on his soul - emblematic to Scrooge’s “soul of lead”
