What does ‘Incarnation’ mean and why is it important to Christians?

A
  • The Incarnation is the belief that God became human in the person of Jesus Christ
  • It is important to Christians because it reveals God’s love, offers salvation, and provides a model for human life

Evidence to show Jesus was fully God

A
  • “The Word was God” which shows Jesus is eternal and divine. e.g shows Jesus was present at Creation (John 1 links to Genesis 1)
  • “Lazarus, come out!” which shows Jesus has power over death. e.g he raised Lazarus from the dead
  • “Quiet! Be still!” which shows Jesus controls nature. e.g he calmed a storm on the sea instantly
  • “I and the Father are one.” which shows Jesus claimed equality with God. e.g jewish leaders tried to stone Him for claiming to be God.

  • “Jesus wept.” which shows human emotion e.g Jesus cried when Lazarus died
  • “He was hungry.” which shows Jesus had physical needs e.g after 40 days of fasting, he was weak and tempted

    which shows Jesus experienced human death e.g his final words before dying on the cross
