A

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. (John 12:6)

A

Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. (John 12:9)

A

At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. (John 12:16)

Q

A

They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” (John 12:21)

22
Q

22 Venit Philippus, et dicit Andreae; Andreas rursum et Philippus dixerunt Jesu.

A

Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. (John 12:22)

23
Q

A

Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (John 12:23)

24
Q

24 Amen, amen dico vobis, nisi granum frumenti cadens in terram, mortuum fuerit,

A

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (John 12:24)

25
Q

A

The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:25)

26
Q

A

Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:26)

27
Q

27 Nunc anima mea turbata est. Et quid dicam? Pater, salvifica me ex hac hora. Sed propterea veni in horam hanc:

A

“Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. (John 12:27)

28
Q

28 Pater, clarifica nomen tuum.

A

Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” (John 12:28)

29
Q

A

The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. (John 12:29)

30
Q

30 Respondit Jesus, et dixit: Non propter me haec vox venit, sed propter vos.

A

Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. (John 12:30)

31
Q

31 Nunc judicium est mundi: nunc princeps hujus mundi ejicietur foras.

A

Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. (John 12:31)

32
Q

A

But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” (John 12:32)

33
Q

A

He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die. (John 12:33)

34
Q

34 Respondit ei turba: Nos audivimus ex lege, quia Christus manet in aeternum: et quomodo tu dicis: Oportet exaltari Filium hominis? quis est iste Filius hominis?

A

The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?” (John 12:34)

35
Q

A

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. (John 12:35)

36
Q

36 Dum lucem habetis, credite in lucem, ut filii lucis sitis.

A

Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them. (John 12:36)

37
Q

37 Cum autem tanta signa fecisset coram eis, non credebant in eum;

A

Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. (John 12:37)

38
Q

A

This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” (John 12:38)

39
Q

39 Propterea non poterant credere, quia iterum dixit Isaias:

A

For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: (John 12:39)

40
Q

A

“He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn - and I would heal them.” (John 12:40)

41
Q

A

Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him. (John 12:41)

42
Q

A

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; (John 12:42)

43
Q

A

for they loved praise from men more than praise from God. (John 12:43)

44
Q

44 Jesus autem clamavit, et dixit: Qui credit in me, non credit in me, sed in eum qui misit me.

A

Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. (John 12:44)

45
Q

45 Et qui videt me, videt eum qui misit me.

A

When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. (John 12:45)

46
Q

A

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. (John 12:46)

47
Q

A

“As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. (John 12:47)

48
Q

Sermo quem locutus sum, ille judicabit eum in novissimo die.

A

There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. (John 12:48)

49
Q

A

For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. (John 12:49)

50
Q

A

I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” (John 12:50)
