Joints Flashcards
(7 cards)
Atlantoaxial joint (C1-C2)
Allows the “no” motion of the head and is created by the atlas (C1) rotates above the protruding lens of the axis (C2)
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
Also called the jaw it is a hinge shaped joins the responsible for jaw motion including : protraction/retraction, elevation/depression, and lateral deviation
-it is also made up of the mandible which articulates with the temporal bones
Intervertebral facet
Vertebral column articulated through inferior and superior intervertebral facet joints. They are triaxial joints- allow movement in a three planes: flexion/extension/hyper extension, side bending, and rotation to right and to left
Scapulothoracic articulation
It is NOT a true joint; it is an articulation between the scapula and the rib cage
Glenohumeral joint
Also know as the shoulder joint; it is a triaxial joint -allows movement in all 3 planes: flexion/extension/hyper extension, abduction/adduction
Sternoclavicular joint (SC) joint
The meal and a bowl clavicles connect the sternum forming the SC joint
Acromioclavicular joint (AC) joint
Both clavicles connecting the scapulas Acromion process
-it is a non-axial joint which create gliding plane movement
