Independent clauses
Can stand alone as a complete sentence
Has a subject and a verb
Expresses a complete thought
✅ Examples:
She went to the store.
The dog barked.
I like ice cream.
Dependent clauses
Cannot stand alone as a complete sentence
Has a subject and a verb
Does not express a complete thought
Usually begins with a subordinating conjunction (like because, although, when, if, since, etc.)
🚫 Examples:
Because she went to the store
Although the dog barked
If I like ice cream
