i. Direction of drift from the intended route and how much have you gone away from it.
ii. Has the objective or the selected, reference point been crossed? This can be found out by comprising estimates of time and distance traveled.
iii. Compare the terrain of the place where you stand with the one already studied from the map and try to co-relate the two to find out the intended direction.
iv. Locate some features in the area that will help to find out own position.
v. Tracks found in the area will generally lead to some habitation.
vi. Sounds of barking dogs, if heard, can indicate the direction of a village.
vii. The direction of flow of water in streams can help in finding the way.
viii. Fire lanes may lead to the road head.
