what is the definition for mother nature?
Mother nature provides for their children, as the earth provides for us.Therefore, the earth is seen as their mother. -watharung
what is the definition of kinship?
A person’s responsibilities and relationships towards other people, the land and natural resources. Indigenous Australians have a deep spiritual connection to the land through dream time stories.
what is the definition of country?
used to describe the lands, waterways and seas to which they are connected.
what is the definition of nature?
the living things, the ecosystems and the processes that form them, within the Earth’s biosphere.
what is the definition of outdoor enviroments?
its an area outside a building. eg- ovals, parks, dams, lakes, rivers, creek

areas of public land that re controlled by and are the responsibility or goverment

wilderness terms-
BIG- a wilderness area must be large enough to be self-sufficent to maintain its ecological processes and biological diversity. the lower limit is often set at 2000 hectares.
REMOTE- a wilderness area is difficult to access. it would likely be accessed via unmade tracks/paths
UNTOUCHED- a wilderness area must be undamaged or unmodified by humans
what’s the definition of custodianship?
the idea of custodianship (stewardship/guardianship) builds on relationships with land, which include cultural, spiritual and social practices directed towards the protection of natural cycles, ecosystems, species and landscape features
what’s the definition of resource?
a resource can be described as something from the environment that aids humans usually as a source of income. this can be in the form of food, building materials, fuels etc.
what’s the definition of study site?
the environment can be used as a classroom; to investigate, analyse and pursue knowledge. people that use these include scientists, land managers, volunteers.
what’s the definition of spiritual?
a bond with the environment on a deeper level, having a sense of belonging, and putting life into perspective are all ways we can describe a spiritual connection with the environment.
what are the key perceptions of the outdoor enviroments?
resource-to support human needs
adversary-an opponent/challenge
gymnasium-to get fit
cathedral-a place for worship
classroom-place to learn
museum-historical significance
playground-for fun/enjoyment
commodity-to make profit
fragile-protection and preservation, easily altered
what is recreation
the outdoor environment is used as a venue for leisure, fun and enjoyment . They can be active activities, e.g surfing, canoeing, snowboarding, skiing, bush walking, mountain biking. Or passive activities e.g bird watching and photography.
what are positive impacts for the environment?
they include the society having a greater appreciation of the outdoor environment, leading to an increase in minimal impact strategies when participating in outdoor activities.
what are negative impacts of the environment?
they can include habitat disturbance and destruction especially with popular activities and large group numbers.
