What is motivation?
The driving force or the reasons behind a person’s desire to do something.
What are intrinsic motivations?
Motivations to engage in an activity that we get from within ourselves.
Give an example of intrinsic motivation.
Desire to complete a task, e.g., climb a mountain.
What is personal satisfaction in terms of motivation?
Completing a bird watching list.
What is extrinsic motivation?
Motivation to engage in an activity because we want to earn a reward or avoid punishment.
Give an example of receiving praise as extrinsic motivation.
Classmates praising you for standing up on a surfboard.
How can money serve as extrinsic motivation?
A professional surfer gets paid.
what is the motivation competence/ mastery
eg- being first to achieve something (climbing mt everest). building strength through participating in the experience. setting a record or other eacheivment
what is the motivation stimulus advance
stimulus advance is the motivation to experience outdoor environments so something unpleasant or uncomftorable is avoided. eg going to an outdoor ed camp to avoid going to a school dance
what is the motivation socialisation
socialisation is the motivation to experience outdoor environments for the social benefits. eg of this motivation could be going to the outdoor ed camp to go surfing with your friends
what is the motivation cognitive reward
it s the motivation to experience outdoor environments for the mental benefits. eg like learning a new skill like snowboarding.
