4 chambers
- Right atrium/ Left atrium
- Right ventricle/ Left ventricle
- Atriums and ventricles are separated by valves to prevent backflow of blood.
- Left side and right side of the heart are separated by the septum.

What is the systemic system?

A

Systemic- pumps oxygenated blood to the muscles (where O2 gets used) and deoxygenated blood back again.

What is the pulmonary system?

A

Pulmonary- pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs (get saturated with O2) and oxygenated blood back to the heart again.

  • The number of times the heart beats per minute.

A
  • The volume of blood pumped out by the left ventricle per beat.

A
  • The volume of blood pumped out of the left ventricle per minute.
  • Cardiac output is calculated by the following:
