One key feature was that they believed in white supremacy, especially the superiority of white Anglo-Saxon Protestants (known as WASPS). They targeted and antagonized Americans who were not WASPS such as immigrants; communists; Jews; and chiefly blacks— who they saw as evil. They frequently fought against immigrants and Jews and would host lynchings of black people by klansmen who were seen as heroes for killing the blacks.
A second feature was that they grew to become immensely powerful politically. By 1923, it is estimated that they had a membership of over 5million. They had support from police, courts and even politicians. In fact, the Governor of Indiana at the time was a klansmen. In 1925, they hosted mass protests in DC against any equality between races
