Knee Joint Flashcards
(8 cards)
Types of joints the knee joint belongs too
Synovial hinge joint
Synovial gliding joint
Describe the formation of knee joint
Double layered-made of fibrous capsule and synovial membrane
-capsule is attached to margins of articular surfaces and surround the sides of the posterior part of the joint
No capsule present on the front to permit the synovial membrane to form suprapatellular bursa that’s under the quadriceps
Each sode of the patella consists of tendons vastua lateralis and medialia to strengthen the capsule
How the stability of the knee joint is maintaining
On each side of patella vastus lateralis and medialis
-posteriorly the oblique popliteal ligament due to expansion of semimembranous muscle
Anterior and posterior cruciate ligament
Femoral tendon of popliteus muscle
-fibular collateral ligament
-tibial collateral ligament
Transverse ligament of knee
Ligament posterior aspect of knee
-oblique popliteal ligament
-Arcuate popliteal ligament
-posterior ligament of fibular
Posterior meiscofemoral ligament
Posterior cruciate ligament
Popliteal tendon
Ligament of anterior aspect of knee joints
Anterior cruciate ligament Posterior cruciate ligament Tibial collateral ligament fibular collateral ligament Transverse ligament of knee Ligament parellae
State the intrascapular ligament and uses
Anterior cruciate ligament -prevent posterior displacement of femor
When knee flexed prevents tobia from being pulled anteriorly
-posterior cruciate ligament-prevents anterior displacement of the femur onnthe tibia
With knee joint flexed prevents the tibia from being pulled posteriorly
How the knee joint locks
Medial rotation of femur at the end of extension locks the joint
Stability of knee joint is due to
Powerful muscles-hamstrings and quadriceps
Lifaments
Bony configuration
