What are the differentials for Knee pain?
Degenerative Process: OA
Meniscal, ligamentous injury.
Fracture.
Neoplasm.
Infective process.
Quadriceps or patella tendon tear.
McMurrays test?
Grasp the knee holding over the knee joint lines. Flex and extend the knee while applying internal and external rotation. Clicking or discomfort might be indicative of medial menisci tear.
What is important on examination of the knee?
Look:
Scars, brusing, erythema. Valgus or varus deformity. Swelling
Feel:
Presence of effusion. Tenderness of joint lines. Gap in quadricep or patella tendon. Presence of heat.
Move:
Active/Passive ROM.
Gait.
Special Tests
Valgus Stress: Medial Collateral Ligaments.
Varus Stress: Lateral Collateral Ligaments.
Anterior/Posterior Draw test.
McMurrays.
Differentials for haemarthrosis
Cruciate Ligament Injuries
Meniscal Injuries
Bleeding Disorders
Blood Thinners
Osteoarthritis
Result of surgery.
