Behind the trees…. (Royal library)
Behind the trees, on your left hand side you can see a beautiful yellow building – that’s The Royal Library. That building is from 1877 and we can’t actually see the latest edition to the building. Because it’s a five story underground room that was constructed during the 1980s to make room for the library’s large collections. Why so many books?…. It’s a library…..and also – in 1661 it was decided that all publishers in Sweden needed to send at least one copy to the library. This was so we could monitor everything that was published in the country. So in there we have gathered almost everything that has been published in Sweden since 1661.
About 40% of….
About 40% of Stockholm are parks and green areas. This is Humlegården, the second oldest park in the city. Humle means “hops”, which is one of the main ingredients in……. beer, and that’s exactly what we used to grow here back in the days hence the name Humlegården/hops yard
Humlegården har alltså fått sitt namn av att man odlade humle här som man använder när man brygger öl och vi har bryggt öl i detta avlånga land sedan 1200-talet.
Straight ahead you… (Olympic stadium)
Straight ahead you can see a tower with a green clock on it. That’s the Olympic Stadium. Stockholm had the Olympic Games 1912. This is the oldest still used Olympic Stadium in the world.
Stadion stod alltså klar till solskensolympiaden 1912. Byggdes av Ivar Krügers byggfirma Krüger&Toll som också byggde NK-huset och grunden till Stadshuset.
