Now we’re soon (Margareta Krook)
Now we’re soon approaching the Royal Dramatic theater again. When we do so I would like all of you to take a look in the left corner of the building because over there you will find a woman standing all by herself. This is Margareta Krook.
Margareta was a very famous actress in Sweden back in the days. Anyone know why the statue is located there? She often stood there and had a smoke or two during the breaks at the theater.
If you pass the statue later, feel her belly. She is warm. Not because of the sun but because the statue is heated from the inside to reflect Margareta’s warm personality. She passed away in 2001, 76 years old.
I have a question…. (Stockholmssyndromet)
I have a question for you. Have you ever heard of the term “The Stockholm Syndrome”? It happened on this street where Acne Studios is today on your right hand side. It used to be a bank there and in 1973 a man walked into the bank and took the staff hostage. The world’s eyes were focused on the area for six days before the police stormed the building and the drama could come to an end. The bank staff and other hostages became friends with the bank robbers. They even started to defend him afterwards.
This event gave birth to the psychological term Stockholm Syndrome which means that you start to sympathize with the people doing you harm. They say that one of the women even fell in love with him. But that is better known as the “bad-boy syndrome” Completely different psychological phenomenon.
- happens to the best of us.
This area is Kungsträdgärden
This area is Kungsträdgärden - the Kings yard or garden. It used to belong to the palace where they grew fruits and vegetables, trained horses and so forth. It open for the public in the mid 1700 and today we use the area mostly for events and festivals. A couple of years ago we had the ESC in Stockholm and then the fans were gathered here. I wonder if anyone knows how many times Sweden has won the ESC?
7 times. We are sharing first place together with Ireland. First time Sweden won was in 1974 in Brighton UK. Then it sounded something like this.
(Spela Waterloo)
The beautiful (Grand hotel)
The beautiful building on your left hand side is the Grand hotel. Founded in 1874 and is probably the most exclusive hotel in Scandinavia. Grand Hotel was also the first hotel in Sweden that started to change sheets between their guests. This was the end of the eighties….Eventuellt sätt pa
Waterloo igen och stäng av snabbt igen.
…In the 1880’s of course. På med Waterloo igen
We are now driving (Slottet)
We are driving along the northern wing of the palace. Look up and you see the balcony where the royal family greets the people when there is something big going on i.e a wedding.
The king doesn’t live here anymore. The royal family moved in the 80s to Drottningholm - about 40 minutes from where we are now. I guess they thought this palace was too small for them or something like that.
