L23 - Movement Variability Flashcards
(10 cards)
what is movement variability
differences in behaviour, technique or performance over time. (mean, SD)
what is an example of movement variability?
change in HR as steady state approaches or multiple tennis serves results.
what is end point variability?
variability in the trajectory of the end chain of kinetic movement.
what is coordination variability
variability in the relationship between segments controlling the end point.
what does funneling variability refer to?
as you get firther distal the variability decreases. e.g. at the start the variaibly could be 95% and then at the end it would be 5%
what are the possible roles of variability?
- to provide flexibility and adaptability in new and varying environments.
- to reduce repetitive tissue loading
- initiating the transition from one stable mode of coordination to another.
how can sport see deviation to the ideal movement (if that exists)?
expert performers are more consistant and therefore their actions are less variable.
how can clinical see deviation to the ideal movement (if that exists)?
injurjed patterns have reduced motor function and control; therefor will be more variable
how can development see deviation to the ideal movement (if that exists)?
indivduals who are under-developed sensory perception therefore actions will have more variety.
what is a syneregy
how variables can work together to minimise errors. as if one makes an error the other can work harder to minimise it. a good reason to treat them indivdually.
