LA Anatomy Flashcards

1

12
Q

infraorbital nerve

A

branch of CN V2
enters orbit via inferior orbital fissure then leaves skull to exit face via infraorbital foreamen
supplies part of upper lip , lower eye and sides of nose
also gives off middle superior alveolar nerve and anterior superior alveolar nerve which supply pre molars and their gingiva and canines and incisors + gingiva respectively

16
Q

lesser palatine nerve

A

branch of CN V2 pterygopalatine ganglion

supplies soft palate and uvulva

17
Q

nasopharyngeal nerve

A

branch of CN V2 pterygopalatine ganglion

supplies nasopharynx

18
Q

anterior division of CN V3

A

mainly motor fibres
consists of….
- deep temporal nerve (supplies temporalis) motor
- nerve to lateral pterygoid (lateral pterygoid) motor
- masseteric nerve (supplies masseter) motor
- buccal nerve (sensory to cheek and mandibular molar gingiva)

19
Q

inferior alveolar nerve

A

branch of CN V3
first branch = nerve to mylohyoid , motor innervation to mylohyoid muscle and anterior belly of digastric
then enters mandible via mandibular foramen
supplies sensory innervation to lower teeth and gingiva
then exits mandible via mental foramen as mental nerve which supplies sensory innervation to chin and lower lip

20
Q

lingual nerve

A

Branch of CN V3
provides sensory innervation to anterior 2/3 of tongue , lingual gingiva and floor of the mouth
chorda tympani from CN VII travels with the lingual nerve it carries sensory afferents to receive taste from ant 2/3 of tongue and also parasympathetic fibres to the submandibular and sublingual glands

21
Q

auriculotemporal nerve

A

branch of CN V3

supplies sensory innervation to that region of face

22
Q

nerve to medial pterygoid

A

branch of CN V3

motor innervation to medial pterygoid muscle

23
Q

what nerve supplies parasympathetic innervation to the submandibular and sublingual glands

A

chorda tympani branch of facial nerve

runs alongside lingual nerve of CN V3

24
Q

where does the facial nerve exit the skull

A

stylomastoid foramen

25
Q

what are the 5 main motor branches of the facial nerve

A
temporal
zygomatic
buccal
marginal mandibular
cervical
26
Q

what gland does the facial nerve run through

A

parotid gland
