Lab 7 Flashcards
(22 cards)
What does the blood sugar level mean?
The concentration of all monosaccharides present in the blood (generally used for glucose only)
At what age do ungulates have only fructose in their blood?
In foetal ages and right after birth
What’s the blood sugar level for mammals? (Except ruminants)
4-5 mmol/l
What’s the blood sugar level for ruminants?
2-3 mmol/l
What’s the blood sugar level for birds?
8-9 mmol/l
What three organs require a high quantity of sugar for energy supply?
Muscle, brain and kidney
What are three ways for the the body to maintain the blood sugar level?
- Absorption from intestines
- Glycogenolysis in the liver (glycogen -> glucose)
- Gluconeogenesis in the liver
Where is insulin produced?
Pancreas beta cells
Where is glucagon produced?
Pancreas alpha cells
Where is epinephrine produced?

Adenohypophysis
Where is ACTH produced?
Adenohypophysis
What does growth hormone increase?
Lipolysis
What does ACTH increase?
Glucocorticoid production of adrenal cortex
