Lab Exam Flashcards
(44 cards)
BLood pressure with area elevation
Decreased with arm above head cuz gravity
BP and heart rate after exercise
Increase because greater sympathetic stimulation during exercise
Tidal volume and inpiratory/expiratory reserves after exercise
Tidal volume increased
Both reserves decrease
Clear correlation there
Breathing cycle post ex
Faster
Rate of air flow post ex and why
Increased for more ox
Exhalation air flow post ex
Increased for extra CO2
Minute air flow rate post ex and why
Increased becasue of rate and depth
Does vital capacity change for ex
No
Contraction vs relaxation time
Contraction is shorter
Why doesn’t finger twitch amplitude increase after a certain level of stimulus
Because at some level all the motor units have been activated
Temporal wave summation
Stimulus above a certain frequency causes amplitdue of contractions to increase
What happens after complete tetanus
Fatigue
What muscles in arm contract for flex ion
Anterior, same side as palm
Arm muscles for extension
Posterior or back side of hand
Flexion or extension of fingers effect on EMG of arm
Increase activity during extension in posterior
And flexion if. Fist is closed
Weighted extension vs flexion
Flexion: anterior increased cuz recruitment
Extension: posterior increase cuz recruitment
Lengthened for both
Muscle force vs mass
More mass stronger force and longer time to fatigue
Do muscle fibers have a refractory period
No because they can increase in magnitude
Cold effect on pulse wave
Decreased it cuz vasoconstriction
Apnea effect of HR
Decreases HR but increase blood pressure
What does EMG record
Electrical activity of muscle fibers
Why does fatigue happen after tetanus
Greater quantity of Ca2+ has been released so it takes longer for all that Ca to return to the SR delaying relaxation
Warm effect on pulse wave
Higher pulse wave bcuz vasodilation
How do ECG intervals change with exercise
All decreased with exercise and increased with recovery
