Location:
- Simple Squamous Epithelium
- Function is Diffusion
- Found in the Capillaries or Alveoli
(This is the Profile view; Teh is pointing to the dark layer)
Name:
Function:
Location:
- Simple Squamous Epithelium
- Function is Diffusion
- Found in Capillaries or Alveoli
Name:
Function:
Location:
- Simple Cuboidal Epithelium
- Function is Secretion with a little bit of Diffusion
- Found in Kidney Tubules
Large White Structures (one at tip of pointer)
Name:
Function:
Location:
- Goblet Cells (specialized Columnar Cells)
- Function is secretion of mucus
- Found within Simple Columnar Epithelium
Hard to see, but after a small gap at the tip of the pointer there is a specialized feature to these Simple Columnar Epithelium cells
What is it?
What do these types of cells specialize in?
Where are they found?
- Cilia. (This is a Ciliated Simple Columnar Epithelium cell.)
- They specialize in secretion and some absorption.
- They are found in Uterine Tubes, Fallopian Tubes, or the Upper Respiratory Tract.
Hard to see, but what type of Epithelia is this? (Hint: The nuclei are all along the basement membrane)
Name:
Function:
Location:
Any Specialized Structures:
- Simple Columnar Epithelium (non-ciliated)
- Found in the lining of the Stomach and Intestines, some Salivary Glands, Gall Bladder
- Function is Secretion and some Absorption
- Specialized Structures are Goblet Cells (which are visible and should give away what type of epithelium this is)
Name:
Function:
Locatioin:
Any visible specialized structures:
- Psuedostratified Columnar Epithelium (Nuclei scattered between top and bottom of cell)
- Function is Secretion or Absorption
- Found in areas that need a little more durability; Upper Respiratory Tract, Eustachian Tubes
- Visible Specialized Structure would be Cilia (easily visible at the top near the free surface)
Name:
Function:
Location:
- Stratified Squamous Epithelium (notice how the cells get more and more flattened as they move towards the free surface)
- Function is protection and coverings in areas of high abuse
- Found the thickest in areas that are constantly being abused; Palms of your Hands or the Soles of your Feet (areas with skin or lining wet surfaces such as mouth, esophagus, and vagina)
Name:
Function:
Location:
- Areolar Connective Tissue
- Function is as the packing Material for the Body
- Found anchoring Blood Vessels, Nerves, and Body Organs
Thin Dark Lines Teh points to
Name:
Found in what type of Tissue:
- Elastic Fibers
- Found in Areolar Connective Tissue
- Composed of Protein Elastic (Stretch and Rebound)
Wavy Lines Teh Points To
Name:
Found in what type of Tissue:
- Collagenous Fibers (Collagen)
- Found in Areolar Connective Tissue
- Composed of Protein Collagen
Dark Circular Cell Teh Points To
Possible Name:
Possible Function:
- Fibroblast
- Fiberproducing
- Fibroclast
- Fiber reabsorbing (breakdown)
- Fibrocyte
- Mature Fiber Cell
Name of Tissue:
Function:
Location:
- Adipose Tissue
- Function is Lipid (fat) storage
- Found around Kidneys, Heart, Eyes, Subcutaneous Connective Tissue….almost everywhere
This is the Longitudal Section
Name:
Function:
Location:
- White Dense Fibrous Connective Tissue (notice its wavy)
- Function is linkage (see below)
- Found in:
- Tendons (link muscle to bone)
- Ligaments (join bone to bone)
- Visible cells are most likely FibroCLASTS
Dark Circle at the tip of the pointer
Name:
Function:
Found in what type of tissue:
- Osteon Canal
- Contains Bone’s Blood Supplies
- Found in Bone Tissue
Dark Spots at tip of Pointer
Name:
Function:
Found in what type of Tissue
- Lacunae
- Function is that they contain Osteoblasts that wall themselves in and become Osteocytes
- Found in Bone Tissue
Very small/thin dark lines that Teh is pointing to (travel outwared)
Name:
Function:
Found in what type of tissue:
- Canaliculi
- Connects Osteon Canal to Lacunae (carries nutrients)
- Found in Blood Tissue
Area at tip of pointer between the two Osteon Canals that Teh is pointing to
Name:
Function:
Found in what type of Tissue:
- Volkmann’s Canal
- Function is that is links two Osteon Canals together
- Found in Bone Tissue
Name:
Info:
Location:
- Hyaline Cartilage (notice the Lacunae are spread out)
- Most common type of cartilage
- Each Lacunae contains Lacunae in the middle and out towards the edges. The inner Lacunae contain Chondroblasts while the outer Lacunae contain Chondrocytes.
- Found in Articular Surface of Bones, end of Nose, Fetal Skeleton, Trachea
