Lab Practical Review Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is an Invertebrates?
An animal without a backbone
What is a Vertebrates?
An animal with internal skeleton and backbone
What is an Asymmetrical body plan?
Irregular shape (meaning one side of their body doesn’t mirror the other)
What is a Radial body plan?
It can be split into two identical halves by any line that passes through it (Think of a circle) Ex. Starfish
What is a Bilateral body plan?
It can be divided into two identical halves by a line in only one spot (Ex. Dogs or Butterflies)
What is a Coelom?
A fluid filled body cavity that provides space for development and suspension of organs and organ systems (Ex. Insects and some worms have them)
What is Segmentation?
The division of the body into repetitive sections
What does Sessile mean?
It means that an animal stays stationary (Ex. sea sponges and sea anemones)
What is the two types of reproduction?
Sexual and Asexual
What occurs during Prohpase?
The nuclear membrane fades, chromosomes condense, spindle fibers form, centrioles start to move to opposite poles. Can be compared to Prophase 2 in Meiosis.
What occurs during Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell. Each chromatid is attached to a spindle with centromere. Can be compared to Metaphase 2 in Meiosis.
What occurs during Anaphase?
Chromosomes divide, sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell and each chromatid is now a seperate chromosome. Can be compared to Anaphase 2 in Meiosis
What occurs during Telophase?
Spindle fibers dissolve, chromosomes reach opposite poles and begin to uncoil and the nuclear envelope reforms. Can be compared to Telophase 2 in Meiosis
What occurs during Cytokinesis?
Cytoplasm divides and two new daughter cells are now seperate
