The octogone signifies
The contents of the container are dangerous
Flammable
Are substances which can burn easily or cause other materials to burn
Explosive
Can cause injury or death as a result of a blast or because of the materials expelled by the blast(metal shards)
Usually are pressurized aerosol containers which may explode when heated
Corrosive
Are chemicals which can damage clothing cause blindness, death if ingested, can cause symptoms ranging from mild rash to serious skin damage
The triangle signifies
The container is dangerous, usually because the contents are under high pressure
Danger
Indicates immediate and grave risk:
- Very toxic (acute toxicity)
- flammable at low temperature
- Can cause blindness or skin damage in seconds
Radiation
Radioactive materials emit high energy atomic particles or high energy radiation
-In homes found in smoke detectors
Involve no danger if kept at a safe distance
Poison can cause
Anything from mild illness to death, depending on the nature of the poison
Poison can enter the body in 4 ways
Ingestion(eating)
Inhalation(breathing)
Absorption through skin
Injection
Warning
Cause for concern, but less immediate
