Labs and Medicines In CT Flashcards
(22 cards)
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
Indicate Renal function: Normal BUN 7 to 25 mg/dl
Creatinine
Indicate Renal Function: Normal 0.5 to 1.5 mg/dl
BUN/ Creatinine Ratio
Normal Ration is approx 6:1, 22:1 (6-22:1)
*reference is lab specific
Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)
an approximation of creatinine clearance of the rate by which creatinine is filtered from the blood stream.
-Takes into account the pts age, sex, and race
eGRF: great than 90 to 120ml/min indicates normal kidney function
GFR: Above 70 for Men and Above 60 for women
prothrombin Time (PT )
12-15 Seconds
Measure blood coagulation
Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT)
25-35 seconds
additional lab value used to detect abnormalities in blood clotting.
International Normalized Ratio (INR)
0.8-1.2
Compares a patients PT with a control sample of more accurate results.
Platelet Count
140,000-440,000 UL of Blood
also used to asses the patients clotting ability
Alanine Transaminase (ALT)
7-55 Units per Liter (U/L)
Elevated ALT may be indicated of hepatitis, cirrhosis, Blocked bile ducts, or liver malignancy
Aspartate Transaminase (AST)
8-48 U/L
Elevated AST may be indicated of hepatitis, cirrhosis, Blocked bile ducts, or liver malignancy
Alkaline Phosphate (ALP)
45-115 U/L
Elevated ALP may be indicated of hepatitis, cirrhosis, Blocked bile ducts, or liver malignancy
Bilirubin
0.1-1.2 Milligrams per deciliter MG/DL
Increased Bilirubin causes jaundice
Albumin
3.5-5.0 Grams per deciliter (g/dl)
Elevated albumin may indicate of chronic liver disease such as cirrhosis
Total Protein (TP)
6.3-7.9 Grams per deciliter (g/dl)
Live disease may be indicated by a low TP measurement.
Gamma- Glutamyl transferase (GGT)
9-48 U/L
Used to determine the cause of elevated ALP that can occur in certain liver diseases
L-Lactate dehydrogenase (LD)
122-222 U/L
Elevated LD may be indicate of liver disease such as hepatitis
D-Dimer
testing is utilized for the diagnosis of dep vein thrombosis of pulmonary embolism. Elevated amounts of D-dimer in the bloodstream may indicate recently degraded blood clots.
Liver Function Test (LFT)
is used to screen for damage to the patients liver and consists of a panel of blood test that measure the levels of various enzymes and protein in circulating blood
Coumadin/ Warfarin
an anticoagulant, used to prevent the iformation of blood clots in veins and arteries and may reduce the incidence of heart attack and stroke.
prone to excessive bleeding caused by truama.
Metformin/ Glucophage
used to treat type 2 diabetes.
-pt may be instructed not to take metformin for up to 2 days after contrast study.
Anxiolytic
prescribed to reduce patient anxiety during a CT scan such as:
1)Benzodiazepine:
-Diazepam (Valium,)
- alprazolam (xanax)
-clonazepam(Klonopin)
-Lorazepam(ativan))
2)Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors:
-Paroxetine (praxil)
-sertraline (zoloft)
-fluoxetine (prozac)
Escitalopram (Lexapro)
