Last minute flashcard set
(5 cards)
Explain the structure of a nucleotide and the direction they are added
Phosphate group + ribose/deoxyribose sugar + nitrogenous base
Nucleotides are linked from the 3’ carbon to the 5’ carbon
NEW nucleotides are added to the 3’ direction for the unlinked nucleotides
Proteins synthesized by free ribosomes..
Proteins synthesized by ER ribosomes..
ususally headed to the nucleus or mitochondria/chloroplast
Are usually used for glycolysis, structural proteins
When transcribing DNA template strand..
The ribonucleotides are added to the 3’ end through hydrogen bonding (between nucleotides) and phosphodiester bonds (between individual ribonucleotides)
Explain the process of coiling in DNA
It starts off with DNA which coils around histone proteins and then they get turned into chromatin fibre which keeps getting coiled and then a chromosome
