Test 3 Last Minute Flashcards
(10 cards)
Explain the cell fusion experiment and the microinjection experiment. What is the conclusion of these two results?
The cell fusion experiment involved taking two cells in M-phase and interphase and then creating a heterkaryote. They found that the interphase cell had condensed into chromosomes.
The microinjection experiment took the cytoplasm of the M-phase cell and then injected into the interphase cell of G2 phase. This cause the formation of an early meiotic spindle
Conclusion: there is some regulatory molecule in the cytoplasm of the M-phase cell which allows for mitosis to occur
Steve Jobs
-affinitior drug
-Pim 1 biomarker for pancreatic research
-pancreatic cancer immunotherapy
Explain the laser beam experiment
There is a photobleached r
Anchorage dependencen and density-dependent inhibition?
Healthy cells demonstrate ancorage dependence
-they must have some medium to start cell growth
DDI
-they form one layer and then stop in the G0 phase
Meelhson and Stahl
They grew a generation of E.coli in 15N and then took that and replicated once with 14N
Observed that:
15N only = heavy band
14N + 15N = one band, lighter
Many rounds with 14N = heavy band disappeared, the 15N + 14N and only 14N band appears in 50/50
Explain chromosome flouresence as proof for the semi-conservative model
The chromosome flouresence is proof because it shows that there are some regions with light and some with no flouresence at all
15N = dyed
There will only be intermediate and only 14N left so some regions will be dark and some mixed
Tandem repeats
A sequence of two or more bases which are repeated thousands of times in noncoding regions of the DNA
Three different fates of an SNP
-in a noncoding region
-close to a gene acts like a DNA marker
-linked to a gene
Explain all steps of meiosis I briefly
Prophase I
Metaphase I
Anaphase I
The proteins holding together the homologous chromosomes will breakdown and split and enlongate
Telophase I
