1
Q

what is the key feature of nephrotic

A

LOTS OF PROTEIN in URINE

2
Q

What is the key feature of nephritic

A

Lots of PROTEIN AND BLOOD in urine

3
Q

What are causes of nephrotic syndrome

A

minimal change disease
membranous glomerulonephritis
diabetic nephropathy.

4
Q

What aetiology occurs in nephrotic disease

A

glomerulus becomes leaky > loss of protein > protein cannot be reabsorbed later by the kidney > lost in urine

5
Q

What is the triad of nephrotic disease

A

Proteinuria

Hypoalbuminaea (as albumin is one of the proteins lost)

Oedema (as loss of albumin causes change in osmotic gradient, causing loss of fluid into interstitum)

+ Thrombosis

6
Q

Why does nephritic syndrome occur

A

inflammation of glomerulus and nephron

7
Q

What are causes of nephritic syndrome

A
IgA nephropathy
Post strep glomerulonephrosis
Henoch Schonein Purpura
HUS
SLE
Goodpastuyres
8
Q

Explain defining clinical features of post strep glomerulonephritis

A
4-6 WEEKS after group A strep (pharyngitis, skin)
nephritic presentation (more HTN)

Tx: Control BP

9
Q

Explain defining clinical features of IgA nephropathy

A

Localised to KIDNEY
Nephritic presentation (more proteinuria)
Abdo pain, rash, arthritis
5-7 DAYS after resp / GI infection

10
Q

explain features of Henoch Schonlein purpura

A

WIDESPREAD nephritis (due to ubiquitous deposition of IgA complex)

Purpuric rash
Arthritic
Abdo pain

After resp / GI infection

11
Q

How do you manage Henoch Schonlein purpura

A

spontaneous resolution

occasional steroids
