Difference B/T Population Geography and Demographics?
Population Geography: seeing how a given area is affected by different factors at a certain time.
Demographics: study of human populations and distribution.
ex. Large populations affect coming generations via the economy.
Describe the overall concept of population growth?
How has it changed/will change over time?
More births than deaths (9:12). [Seconds]
Population growth is exponential and began slowly. Large growth in 19th and 20th centuries.
Humanity is restricted to land mass (30% of the earth)
Estimated 10b < people by 2050.
What is overpopulation, Carrying capacity, and the logistic growth graph of population?
Overpopulation: a judgement given to an environment that’s unable to support its population. Typically looks at: Degrading ecosystems + impact on human health.
Carrying Capacity: a term used to see the max amount of people that can be supported based on sustained basis + current technology.
Logistic Growth Graph: An extension of the exponential graph except flattens out at the top right under carrying capacity
List some population trends in the 21st century.
- Sub-Saharan Africa population doubles by 2050.
- Asia takes up ~5billion people.
- Several countries shrinking by 15%
