Lec 3 - Heart Flashcards
(12 cards)
What vertebrae is the sternal angle?
T4
Where do the ascending and descending aorta originate?
Ascending starts and ends at T4
Descending, T5-T12
What are the heart valves between the chambers?
Left Atrioventricular (Tri) Right Atrioventricular (Bi)
What are the heart valves between blood vessels?
Aortic Valve
Pulmonary (semi-lunar valve)
What are the three cardiac veins that drain blood from the heart?
Coronary Sinus
- superior/inferior drain deoxygenated blood to the right atrium
Great Cardiac Vein
Middle Cardiac Vein
Describe the flow of blood between the heart valves
1) Right Atrioventricular regulates blood flow between right atrium and right ventricle.
2) When the right ventricle contract blood enter the pulmonary artery and travels to the lungs for oxygenation.
3) From the lungs blood return to the left atrium via the pulmonary veins.
4) The Left Atrioventricular regulates blood flow between left atrium and left ventricle.
5) Blood is pumped into the aorta when the left ventricle contracts via the aortic semilunar valve
What are the three semilunar cusps of the heart valves and what is their role?
1) Pulmonary sinus
2) Nodule
3) lunule
What are the sounds of the first and second heart sound associated with?
1) Opening (“lub-dub”)
2) Closing/Relaxation (“Dub”)
What are the blood supplies of the heart and their branches?
Reft coronary arteries
1) Right marginal branch
2) posterior Inverventricular (descending) branch
Left coronary arteries
- Anterior Inverventricular (descending) branch
- Circumflex Branch
What nerve innervates the heart?
Vagus nerve CN X
What are the two nodes of the heart that regulate nerve supply?
Sinoatrial Node (SA Node) - intrinsic nerve supply
Atrioventricular Node (AV Node) - regulations contraction of most of the heart
What is the Bundle of His and Purkinje cells?
Bundle of His transmits electrical pulses from the AV node to the ventricles of the heart.
The Purkinje cells functions to distribute the neural impulses to ventricle muscles.
