Lecture 7 - Hand and Forearm Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the 3 forearm joints and the difference between them?
proximal, middle and distal radioulnar joint
- pronation & supination
proximal, and distal are synovial joints and the middle is interosseous membrane
What is the innervation of the anterior compartment of the hand?
median nerve
What is the innervation of the posterior compartment of the hand?
radial nerve
What are the origin, insertion, and action of the Palmaris longus?
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: Palmar aponeurosis
Action: wrist flexion
Nerve: median nerve
What is the origin, insertion, and action of the Pronator teres?
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: lateral shaft of radius
Action: Pronation and flexion (when pronated)
Nerve: median nerve
What are the origin, insertion, and action of the Flexor capri radialis?
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: base of 2nd,3rd metacarpals
Action: flexion and wrist abduction
Nerve: median nerve
What are the origin, insertion, and action of the Flexor capri ulnaris?
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: base of 5th metacarpal
Action: flexion and wrist adduction
Nerve: ulnar nerve
What are the origin, insertion, and action of the pronator quadratus?
Origin: Distal ulna (anterior)
Insertion: Distal radius (anterior)
Action: Pronation of forearm and hand
Nerve: median nerve
What innervates the supinator muscle?
Radial nerve
Where does the ulnar nerve and artery enter the palm of the hand?
“Guyon’s tunnel” and the hook of the hamate
What disease can occur to the Lunate carpal bone?
Avascular necrosis (“Kienbocks Disease”), if it’s vascular supply, is impacted.
What structure separates the ulna from the wrist joint?
Triangular fibrocartilaginous articular disc
What are the two branches of the radial nerve and median nerve?
1) radial nerve proper 2) Posterior Interosseous nerve
1) Median nerve proper 2) Anterior Interosseous nerve
What are the two muscles make up Extensor Capri Radialis?
1) Extensor Capri longus
2) Extensor Capri brevis
Where do the median and radial nerves originate?
The median nerve originates from the lateral and medial cords of the brachial plexus, and has contributions from ventral roots of C5-C7 (lateral cord) and C8 and T1 (medial cord).
The radial nerve originates from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus with root values of C5 to C8 and T1.
What are the origin, insertion, and action of the Brachoradialis?
flexes the forearm at the elbow. It is also capable of both pronation and supination, depending on the position of the forearm.
It is attached to the distal styloid process of the radius and to the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus.
