When expressing conjecture or probability in English we use: I wonder, I bet, must be, may, might, and probably. How is this accomplished in Spanish?

A

By using the future of probability.

  • estar (¿Dónde estarán mis llaves? - I wonder where my keys are?; Estarán en la cocina. - They’re probably in the kitchen.)

A

yo - ra, tú - ras, Ud./él/ella - ra, nosotros/as - ramos (don’t forget to add the accent to the last vowel preceeding -ramos) [habláramos], vosotros/as - rais, Uds./ellos/ellas - ran

121
Q

How is the past subjunctive formed?

A

-For all verbs:
First, by using the Uds./ellos/ellas form of the preterite. Then, by dropping the -ron ending you establish the stem of all past subjunctive forms. Finally, you add the past subjunctive endings to form the past subjunctive forms.

  • For verbs with irregular preterites
Add the past subjunctive ending to the irregular stem
(dar [infinitive] - dieron [preterite form] - diera [past subjunctive])
  • For -ir stem changing verbs and other verbs with spelling changes follow a similar process to form the past subjunctive
(oír [infinitive] - oyeron [preterite form] - oyera [past subjunctive])
