LECTURE 1 Flashcards
(16 cards)
Six Sigma methodology
focuses on: (5)
- Understanding and managing customer requirements
- Aligning key business processes to achieve those requirements
- Utilizing rigorous data analysis to understand and ultimately minimize variation in processes
- Driving rapid and sustainable business improvement to business processes
Lean (definition)
A philosophy of production that emphasizes the minimization of all resources used in activities of a company. It involves identifying and eliminating non-value adding activities.
Lean Six Sigma
A methodology that combines the organizational elements and tools of six sigma with lean’s focus on waste reduction
Effective (quality) & Efficient (speed)
5 key principles of lean (5)
- Define value add and non-value add
- Map the value stream
- Establish process flow
- Shift from push to pull
- Strive for perfection / zero defects
Customer satisfaction can be achieved by: (5)
- Conformance to specifications
- Value
- Fitness for use
- Support
- Psychological impressions
DMAIC (definition)
A six sigma process that outlines the steps that should be followed to improve existing business
DMAIC (5)
- Define
- Measure
- Analyze
- Improve
- Control
Define
Describe the problem we are working on and the Critical to Quality. Organize the team
Measure
Define the defect. Choose Y. Describe the process. Collect data with capable measurement system. Establish baseline process capability. Establish improvement goals
Analyze
Determine which process inputs (X) most influence the key process outputs (Y)
Improve
Identify routes to improving & confirm changes that will achieve the project goals
Control
Implement the solution and establish ongoing mechanisms to ‘lock in’ the improvements and to share them elsewhere
Yellow belt
An individual who has attained a basic knowledge of Six Sigma, but does not lead projects on their own
Green belt
An individual who has some basic training in six sigma methodologies and tools and is assigned to a project on a part-time basis
Black belt
A fully trained Six Sigma expert with up to 160 hours of training who performs much of the technical analysis required of six sigma projects, usually on a full-time basis
Master black belt
A full-time six sigma expert who is responsible for six sigma strategy, traying, mentoring, deployment and results
