Fixed mindset
Entitiy beliefs when one believes that triats like intelligence, talent or personality are fixed traits.
Growth mindset
Incremental beliefs, when one believes traits like intelligence, talent, or personality can gradually increase over time.
Mindset
implicit beliefs about the malleability of personal abilities ( e.g, intelligence, math etc.)
What are characterstics of fixed mindset
1-Result important ( proving yourself)
2-Negative feedback = confirmation that something is not within your ability
3- You lose motivation with chllanges and setbacks
4- “I simply cannot do it”
What are characteristics of growth mindset?
1-Learning = more important than the results ( imprıving yourself)
2- Negative feedback = something to learn from
3-you choose challanges and don’t lose motivation easily
4- I can’t do it yet.
what is the evidence for growth mindset
1- Brain’s plasticity
Brain plasticity
- By learning and practicing, some connections will be used more than others.
- Connections between communicating neurons grow and get stronger
- Connections that aren’t used get weaker: use it or lose it.
Plasticity intervention: 4 lessons+control
- Brain plasticity: this is how you learn
- Mindset: this is what happens when you think froom either mindset
- Neurofeedback: this is your own influence on your brain
- Take home messages: this is how you can use these lessons at home
What is the impact of feedback at home and at school
- Praising effort, what a child does, the learning process – the child learns a growth mindset
- Praising of talent/ what a child is - strengthens the child’s fixed mindset.
