Lecture 21: Heart and Great Vessels Flashcards
Where is the heart located?
middle inferior mediastinum within in the pericardial cavity
What is the transverse sinus?
space between arterial and venous mesocardium
What is the oblique sinus?
space between right and left pulmonary veins
What is the blood supply of the pericardium?
pericardial arteries
pericardiacophrenic arteries
musculophrenic arteries
What is the nerve supply of the pericardium?
CN X
phrenic nerve
sympathetic nerve
Where does the apex of the heart project?
5th intercostal space
8 cm to left of median line of sternum
Where does the base of the heart project?
horizontal plane across sternum
level of costal cartilage 3
ends 2 cm to left of left parasternal line
What is the thickest layer of the heart?
myocardium
what are the functions of the annuli fibrosi?
- Rigid attachment for cardiac muscle fibers
* Support for valves
What is the blood supply to the heart?
right coronary artery, left coronary artery
What does the right coronary artery supply?
right atrium
right ventricle
posterior half of inter ventricular septum
What does the left coronary artery supply?
left atrium
left ventricle
anterior half of inter ventricular septum
Where does the right atrium receive blood from?
Superior vena cava
• Inferior vena cava
• Coronary sinus
• Anterior cardiac veins
Where is the moderator band located
right ventricle
Where does the left atrium receive blood from?
from four pulmonary veins
What is referred to as the pacemaker of the heart?
sinoatrial node
Where is the SA node located?
right atrium near opening of SVC at superior end of sulcus terminals
The SA node receives direct stimulation from what?
sympathetic cardiac nerves
parasympathetic vagus nerves
Where is the AV node located?
interatrial septum near tricuspid valve
What are the two branches off the ascending aorta?
left and right coronary arteries
Where is the position of the aortic arch?
arches to the left over left pulmonary after, apex of arch reaches the middle of the manubrium
What are the three main branches of the aorta?
brachiocephalic
left common carotid
left subclavian
What are the anterior relationships of the arch of the aorta?
left phrenic nerve
left vagus nerve
superficial cardiac plexus
What are the inferior relationships of the arch of the aorta?
left recurrent laryngeal nerve
ligamentum arteriosum
pulmonary trunk
left primary bronchus
