What is the purpose of comparative genomics?
A
To discover what is common or different within or between species. Can be used to find out what genes do what.

How do you compare sequences?
A
Using aligning (lining the genes next to each other and marking the areas which are the same)

A
- some modern humans have neanderthal DNA (Europe and Asia)
- not found in pure Africans
- likely that modern humans bred with neaderthals
