Lecture 7 Flashcards
(13 cards)
what is gait analysis
- study of human locomtion
- walking, running, skipping, jumping
- walking is a series of gait cycles
- a basic necessity in activities of daily living
what is stance
reference limb in contact with the ground
what is swing
reference limb not in contact with the ground
what is single support
only one foot in contact wih the floor
what is double support
both feet in contact with the floor
What is involved in a gait cycle
- standing phase
- swing phase
what happens during a stands phase
double support-- weight acceptance single support- single limb support --- this is 60% of the gait 1 initial contact - heel strike0% 2 loading response- foot fully flat on the ground 10% 3 midstance leg fully vertical 30% 4 terminal stance: hell comes off the ground 50% 5 pre swing: toe off 60%
what happens during a swing phase
double support- limb advancement
single support- limb advancement
— this is 40% of the gait
1 intial swing- accleration of limb forward 75%
2 midswing: swing limb overtakes limb in stance 80%
3 terminal swing: deceleratin of limb to accept weight with inital contact 100
what is stride length
-single sequence of fx by one limb
-begins when reference foot contact the ground
-ends with subsequent floor contact of the same foot
(this is two steps)
**what to see the whole things too look at injury
what is step length
- distance between points of heel contact of the opposit feet
- Rt step length =Lt step length ( in normal gait)
- *this is how we can tell if there is a limp or not
what is walking base
side to side distance between the line of the two feet
- also know as stride width
- this helps tell if there is a balance problem or waddling
what are cadence
this is the number of steps per min
