two dimensions of group therapy
relational climate and psychological work
TP: universality
a group member finds recognition in the group. He/she notices they are not the only person with his/her specific problem and experiences
TP: acceptance
group member feels accepted by other group members or by the group
TP: hope
the improvement of other group members instills hope
TP: altruism
the experience that other group members might be able to help
TP: self-expression
to express yourself within the group, to reveal who you are
TP: guidance
the group provides a group member with information, advice and guidance
TP: learning by example
to learn by example by doing what other group members do in order to solve their problems
TP: learning from feedback
a group member improves their self-knowledge by being provided with feedback from other group members on his behavior and appearance
TP: learning by introspection
the reaction of other group members lead to increased introspective awareness, in which a group member might be able to find connections between life events and his treatment of himself and others
TP: catharsis
