3 possibilities for an empty seed

A

no pollination, therefore no fertilization and no embryo

  • pollination occurs, embyo, insect lays eggs and hatches = larvae, but eats plant embryo and megagametophyte
  • unpollinated and should lead to empty seed but parastized
