Lesburgueres 2011 Flashcards
(9 cards)
social transmission of food preference steps
• Step 1: Demonstrator rat is eating some food
• Step 2: Social interaction takes place without any food present
○ Observer (the test rat) interacts with the demonstrator and smells the other rats breath
○ Smells cumin
• Step 3: Delay
•Step 4: Observer is given a test and given the choice btw two options
○ Option 1: food that smells like the one the demonstrator ate
-Option 2: other food
T or F: Rats are very social and learn from each other from olfaction, and are afraid novel foods .Rats are very wary of things (especially new food)
True
what’s the ida of the experiment
Idea is that if the rats remember the social interaction they will eat the food with the smell similar to that of the demonstrators
dotted line
what the rat would have eaten if they have never been exposed to the breath of a cumin eating rat
two types of receptors important for memory
AMPA and NMDA
AMPA
- not critical for learning , but it precedes NDMA
- Necessary for activation of NDMA
NMDA
- is critical for memory
- If AMPA is inhibited then it blocks NDMA from being activated
Tagging
Cell A and cell B, interact with one other early on
- Cell A: HPC
- Cell B: OFC
AP 5
a selective NMDA receptor antagonist that competitively inhibits the ligand binding site of NMDA receptors. AP5 blocks NMDA receptors in micromolar concentrations.
