The Normans
Founded an advanced legal system and rationalized the English legal system.
Alfred the Great
Established a legal code beginning with the Ten Commandments.
The Anglo-Saxons
Had a court system based to the local shire or county.
The Witan
These were the Anglo-Saxon council of nobles who elected and advised kings.

John Cabot
After Columbus’s voyage, King Henry VII funded John Cabot to go back and discover countries then unknown to Christian people and claim them for England.

House of Burgesses
The first step in state legislature. It was established in Virginia in 1619.
New York Governor and Peter Zenger
Zenger was arrested for printing statements about the governor. When tried, he was proven innocent because his statements were actually true.
New England Confederation
Formed in 1643 as a defensive alliance against hostile Indian tribes, the French, and the Dutch but it only lasted until 1684.
