Lesson 1 Body Organization Flashcards
(40 cards)
What are the levels of organization in the body
Cells, tissues, organs, organ systems
Define tissue
When similar cells that preform the same function are grouped together they form a tissue
What does Muscle tissue do
Contracts to make you move
What does nerve tissue do
Carries electrical signals from the brain to the body and back
What does connective tissue do
Provides support and keeps you together
What is some connective tissues
Bones and fat
What is epithelial tissue
Your skin, which protects you and is on the inside and out
Define organ
A body structure composed of different kinds of tissue that work together
Name a few organs
Kidneys, heart, brain, lungs, skin, etc.
An organ is more what than a tissue
Complex
Define organ system
A group of organs that work together preforming major functions
Name parts of the excretory system
Kidney, lungs, liver, skin
What systems make up the communication system
Nervous system and endocrine system
Structural systems
Skeletal, muscular, integumentary
Oxygen and transport systems
Respiratory system, circulatory
Food and waste processing systems
Digestive, excretory, circulatory
Food and waste processing systems
Digestive, excretory, circulatory
Skeletal is made of
Bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons
Skeletal does
Supports the body and protects the organs, allows movement, stores minerals produced by blood cells
Integumentary
Skin, hair, nails, sweat glands, oil glands
Integumentary functions
Guards against infection and injury and helps regulate body temperature
Muscular
Skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle
Muscular functions
With skeletal systems produces movement, helps circulate blood and move food through the digestive system
Circulatory
Heart, blood, vessels
