3
Q

What is a neuron made of

A

dendrites, which pick up information and give it to the axon which sends it away from the nerve cell

Q

What make up the peripheral nervous system

A

The network of nerves that branch out from the cns and go to the rest of the body

7
Q

Name all three neuron

A

Sensory, which picks up stimuli from internal or external environments and converts it to a message. Interneuron, which carries the message from one neuron to the next. And motor, which sends the message to a muscle or a gland, which reacts accordingly

10
Q

What happens at the axon tips

A

The electrical signals turn to chemical ones so they can move on to the next neuron

15
Q

What is the brain

A

Located in the skull and controls most functions of the body. Made up of lots of interneurons and covered in layers of connective tissue and fluid to protect itself from injury

16
Q

What is the spinal cord

A

A thick column of nervous tissue that links the brain the the nerves that branch out through the body. Surrounded by layers of connective tissue and fluid

17
Q

How many pairs of nerves does the peripheral nervous system have

18
Q

What does the peripheral nervous system do?

A

Controls the entire body, both voluntary and involuntary actions

19
Q

Somatic systems?

A

Voluntary actions

20
Q

Autonomic systems

A

Involuntary actions

21
Q

What’s a reflex

A

An automatic response that occurs without conscious control

22
Q

What’s a reflexive arch

A

Sensory neurons detect stimulus send impulses to spinal cord, internurons in spinal cord carry impulses to motor neurons to make you move via muscle contractions and impulses go to the brain for you to remember them

23
Q

What does the endocrine system do

A

Regulates the body by releasing chemicals called hormones

24
Q

What is the endocrine system made of

A

Different glands

25
What’s a gland
An organ that produces and releases chemicals through ducts or into the bloodstream
26
What is the hypothalamus
It links the nervous and endocrine systems, located deep in the brain and sends out nerve signals, which control sleep and hunger, and chemical signals, which regulate other glands and organs in the endocrine system
27
What’s the pituitary gland
Receives signals from the hypothalamus and releases hormones
28
What’s negative feedback
The process by which a system is turned off by the condition it produces
29
What does the pineal gland do
Control wake sleep patterns and seasonal body changes
30
Thyroid
Produces hormones that control energy related reactions
31
Parathyroid
Blood calcium levels
32
Adrenal glands
Adrenaline and salt water balance in the kidneys and sugar in the blood
33
Thymus
Immune system development during childhood
34
Pancreas
Insulin and glucagon, blood glucose levels
35
Tested
Testosterone, changes in male body’s and sperm production
36
Ovaries
Female reproductive hormones, estrogen, and egg development
