Homestead Act
a railroad system that connects one side of a continent to another, typically crossing a vast distance and linking different ocean or continental borders.
Transcontinental Railroad
Before European settlement, it was the home of large herds of grazing animals, particularly bison (buffalo) and pronghorn antelope. Various Native American tribes also lived and hunted in the area. Later, European settlers, including those from the United States and Canada, migrated to the plains, leading to significant shifts in land use and population.
Great Plains
exodus or migration of 20,000 or more freedmen from the South, the promise lands of Kansas to settle farms

social and education societies for farmers designed to alleviate struggle
Grange
the practice of herding large numbers of cattle from the open range in Texas to railroad terminals in the north, typically Kansas, during the 1860s and 1870s. This was a key method of transporting cattle to eastern markets for beef sales. These drives often covered hundreds of miles and took several weeks or months.
