Dorsiflexion
Plantarflexion
Palm facing upwards.
Supination
Palm facing downwards
Pronation
refers to movement in a superior direction
Elevation
refers to movement in an inferior direction
Depression
A movement that decreases the angle between
two body parts
Flexion
refers to a movement that increases the
angle between two body parts
Extension
refers to flexion at the ankle
Dorsiflexion
refers extension at the ankle
Plantarflexion
the position in which the
body is held against gravity while
standing, sitting, or lying down.
It refers to the alignment of the
body segments.
Posture
the proper alignment of the body
whether one is walking, sitting, running or

Correct or Good Posture
Is the dis-figure of the body’s vertical alignment
and natural curve of the back.
Bad Posture
Benefits of Good Posture:
It promotes movement efficiency and endurance.
Proper posture keeps the bones and joints in the
correct alignment so that muscles are being used
properly.
It contributes to an overall feeling of well-being.
It contributes to good appearance; projects
poise, confidence, and dignity.
Good posture is also good prevention. Prevents
the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal
positions. Prevents backache and muscular
pain.
Causes of poor posture:
Improper nutrition
Weak muscles or muscle imbalance
Disease
Fatigue
Overweight and obesity
Vision and hearing defects
Skeletal defects
Injuries
Effects of Poor Posture:
Poor posture causes improper alignment of
bones.
Muscles, joints and ligaments are prone in
strain.
Incorrect posture may cause fatigue and
muscular pain.
It can affect the position and function of the
vital organs, particularly those in the
abdominal region.
3 Curves on a healthy back
Cervical curve
Thoracic curve
Lumbar curve
“Having poor posture
leads to postural
deviation.”
Catapang 1999
The system of classifying body types
depends on one’s body shape.
Somatotyping
SOMATOTYPING does bring some benefits.
They are as follows:
Helps the client to analyze up to what extent of
weight to reduce or to gain.
Helps to determine what types of diet and
exercises to perform.
Helps to select the types of sport to select.
Body types:
Endomorph
Mesomorph
Ectomorph
Round, soft, flabby, bulky
